风雨交加的深夜，加拿大某处，大概就在伊珀瓦什海滩附近。确切来说，就是伊珀瓦什海滩——Site-43。 就在此地，旷世狂才普雷斯霍尔德・麦克多克特，这位肤色相较这条时间线里的常人偏红几分的怪人，正执行他最新计划的第一阶段。而这项计划，或许只是他那套更宏大的顶层元计划的第二环。

“佛罗里达磕马、克利夫兰湾马、卡罗莱纳沼泽马……”一个看起来还不到十四岁的女孩紧张地坐在普雷斯霍尔德和她父母面前的玻璃罩里。她几乎没察觉到自己被绑在椅子上，只是凭着记忆不停列举着马和矮马的品种，借此平复情绪。固定在她头上的仪器滴滴作响、嗡嗡运转，一点都不让人安心，但她嘴里马的名称却从未中断。

“博士，你确定这能管用吗？”母亲一边问，一边紧紧靠着丈夫寻求慰藉。

“放心吧，相信我。”普雷斯笑着说道，随即扳动了几个开关，戴上了他的护目镜。

“我们该戴一副吗？”父亲打断了他，这让普雷斯十分不爽。

“不用。”话音刚落，他就扳下了最后一个开关，癫狂地大笑起来，窗外正巧划过一道闪电，女孩的大脑被一股奇异的科学能量彻底扫过。一切都亮成了刺眼的白色，现场陷入了片刻寂静。紧接着蒸汽嘶嘶作响，普雷斯拉动操纵杆抬起玻璃罩，钟罩缓缓升起，露出了罩内不省人事的女孩。

“你这个疯子！”父亲松开妻子，带着满腔怒意冲向普雷斯，“你对她做了什么？！”

“我治愈了她，看好了。”普雷斯笑着抬起左手食指指向女孩，说来可惜，到现在这个女孩还没被提起名字。

女孩轻咳了一声，母亲立刻冲上去解开了她身上的绑带。

“宝贝，你没事吧？”母亲几乎是带着哀求的语气开口询问。

“妈……妈妈，我刚刚在想……我想要一只……”她的父母屏住呼吸盯着她，等着她说出下半句，“……猫。”

“博士，你简直是奇迹创造者！”夫妻俩异口同声地喊道，压抑许久的泪水终于落了下来。

“我懂，我懂，我可是很厉害的。”他轻声笑了起来，“快走吧，我得去琢磨我其他的实验了。”

极乐力场泛起阵阵涟漪，大群缥缈的灵马正欢快地跃过它的非定向内表面。数十万只心愿之马从它们的牢笼——至少十个女孩的想象力之中——挣脱出来，自由撒欢。它们中的很多肯定都有名字，而这大概率会让他暴跳如雷。

“这样好多了，不是吗？”他看着漫步的马群啃食、排泄、甚至进行思辨——毕竟它们是精神世界的造物，“这符合伦理多了，你们该谢我才对。”

他接好头盔的线路——这玩意儿是用一堆定向但绝对非法的零件，外加一个他单看造型时髦就选来的滤锅拼出来的。他把头盔往头上一扣，又戴上那只改装过的动力手套，强忍住没蹦出一句不属于自己的经典台词。品牌形象得讲究，普雷斯·麦克多克特只玩完全原创的梗。

一只小雌马从马群里跑出来，他抬起手朝它挥了挥，随即转动手腕，用食指和拇指比出枪的姿势，把两根手指捏在了一起。

“啪噗姆。”¹

这个拟声词算不上贴切，但也差不离了。被他捏碎的那匹马在幽灵般的汁液形成的残影里消失，蒸发融进了瓶子的表层。他的大脑立刻飞速运转起来：利用高速公路沥青里的零损耗导体获取无限能量，紧接着他又捏爆了第二只灵马。等政客们念演讲稿的时候劫持他们的心智搭建分布式智能网络，或者只是用这些能量把议会座椅烘热——这些点子都不错，但还远远不够好。

从来没有哪个好点子是他没法大幅优化的。

“啪噗姆、啪噗姆、啪噗姆。 他可以移除昆虫的飞行能力，直接解决全球饥荒。

“啪噗姆、啪噗姆、啪噗姆、啪噗姆、啪噗姆。”他可以直接修改地球轨道，甚至改造月球的物质构成，彻底解决气候变化。

“啪啪啪啪啪啪啪啪噗姆。”只要搭配一台算力足够强的超级计算机帮他筛选，可以通过抹除存在量子，把任何现实里异常的部分删掉……

他的计划马上就要大功告成了，一切都完美无缺，这时候必须来一场狂笑才行，于是他放声大笑。普雷斯笑得比以往任何一次都要癫狂，笑得太猛，甚至意外触发了一个意料之外的连锁反应。

伊尔瑟·赖德斯正靠在门框上敲门——这举动完全多此一举，毕竟她早就把门推开了。“吵什么呢？”她不耐烦地嘟囔着，普雷斯又一次忍不住在心里感慨她一身扎眼的红色穿搭、红色头发，还有那副离谱到不行的无限眼镜有多荒谬。

“本征机！全是本征机！满脑子全是本征机！”他兴奋得大喊大叫。

伊尔瑟点了点头，抬起胳膊露出手里的麦当劳袋子。“我带了麦记回来。”

“要是有一台机器能彻底干掉堂吉诃德²就好了，想想这带来的叙事冲击……呵，当然了，牵头造这台机器的人肯定得是我。”

“行行行，随便你怎么说，走了，该吃晚饭了。”伊尔瑟转身走了出去，她翻了个白眼，转身的动作没能把翻白眼的神态都藏住了。普雷斯这才反应过来自己饿得不行，二话不说就跟了上去——问问题就会得到答案，而他现在想出来的主意都够编出一本世界上最全的问答集了，一边走嘴里一边蹦出越来越多关于本征机的脑洞。

“造一台能把‘羞涩的人’武器化的本征机，你觉得这主意怎么样？”

“可以。”

“哇哦——等等，我又想到个更绝的！再给遏火部整一台本征机，专门用来镇住那些动摇分子³，这思路绝了吧？”

“还行。”

“干脆一步到位，直接造一台能把SCP-001拿来当武器用的本征机！”

“你说的是哪一个版本的SCP-001？”

“我哪分得清那么多！随便捞一个能用的不就完事儿了！”

“我才不随便选，给你。”伊尔瑟叹了口气，两人终于走到餐桌旁。她把普雷斯前几个礼拜接在桌子上的奇奇怪怪的线路全都拔掉了，腾出地方放吃的——她太清楚了，普雷斯现在兴奋成这样，根本注意不到桌上多了几个小装置。“坐吧。”她拉开一把椅子，换作普雷斯自己来拉肯定会觉得这椅子沉得可疑。等他一屁股坐下去，她把巨无霸从袋子里拿出来，放到他的餐垫上，餐垫上还印着他的名字：普雷斯。

“你真没意思，怪胎伊尔瑟。”普雷斯不满地嘟囔，他打开汉堡纸盒皱起了眉，“没加额外酱吗？”

“没有。你让我帮你带饭，至少得帮着分担饭钱吧。”伊尔瑟坐到他对面，“我是什么人你还不清楚，要么AA，要么免谈。”

普雷斯刚要咬下一口汉堡，伊尔瑟猛地按下藏在桌下的开关。普雷斯坐的椅子开始嗡嗡作响震动起来，一股比之前更加诡异的科学能量和数不清的粒子直接轰进了普雷斯·麦克多克特的大脑。他浑身剧烈抽搐扭动，就像被电刑劈中似的浑身乱扭。

“哈利，这里该填什么！”他大喊起来，“我刚才为什么要说那种话？！”

“超形上学呗。”伊尔瑟耸了耸肩随口答道，接着面不改色地咬了一口自己什么配料都没加的双层吉士堡。

“虚空供能星际飞车！星界位面冲浪板阵列！本征向量德罗宁超集数马赫——”

在整整一分钟的声光特效之后，普雷斯脸朝下栽进了他的汉堡里，晕了过去。伊尔瑟完全不为所动，自顾自接着吃饭。

过了好一会儿，普雷斯猛地醒了过来，番茄酱顺着他的嘴角往下滴，他一边咳一边嘟囔：“我好久没想过有意识的机器人了，我得做点关于有意识机器人的项目才行。”
