描述：SCP-2980是一个无明显特征的白炽灯，构成材料未知，下方安装有一标准塑料制125V墙式适配器插头。灯泡本身透明，拥有一套标准的灯丝和线路系统。其安装托架为红色，两侧各有一“笑脸”标志，前方有一个小的黑色开关。
当SCP-2980被插在标准的125V墙式插座上并开启，且当本地时间到达20:30时，无论插座当时是否通电，SCP-2980均会通电并发出红光。房间内任何其他仍在20:30通电的灯光皆会很快黯淡，直到SCP-2980成为唯一的光源。
当SCP-2980开启后，一个V类有形人形实体（编号为SCP-2980-1）会在有SCP-2980的房间中的某处实体化。SCP-2980-1外观为一大型有蹄两足动物，拥有深红色皮肤和卷曲的角。除这些特征以外，SCP-2980-1形似人类，有人类的面部特征以及人类的躯干、双臂。
在出现后的15-30分钟内，SCP-2980-1会开始向任何处在附近的人阅读一个故事或一系列短篇。SCP-2980-1会阅读一本有皮革封面与羊皮纸书页的小黑书。值得注意的是，SCP-2980-1在阅读时会戴着眼镜。若故事阅读完毕，或者正在听SCP-2980-1读故事的对象睡着，SCP-2980-1会消失。SCP-2980仍会开启，直到手动关闭。听完SCP-2980-1整个故事的个体总是会在其完毕时入睡，并在大约9小时后苏醒。所有对象在之后均表示他们休息充足。
