SCP-5396

特殊收容措施：SCP-5396将被收容在一个标准收容室中。任何对SCP-5396的访问都需要得到首席研究员和Site主管的批准。仅允许患有冒名顶替综合症或有不足感的人员申请访问SCP-5396。

描述：SCP-5396是一面古旧的鎏金木镜，大约于1860年左右制成。其两侧装饰着简单的图案，上方另有一个装饰性雕刻。镜框的顶部可以发现一个符合子弹孔大小的凹槽，周围有火药的痕迹（见附录5396.01）。

当一名有不足感的对象看到SCP-5396时，镜中的反射会从对象变成一个类似的形象，展现为“他们最理想的样子”¹，称为SCP-5396-A。这通常伴随着SCP-5396表面出现的文字，这些文字描述了对象在SCP-5396-A中展现的状态，以及他们是如何获得成功的。

随后使用 GPUI² 进行的实验显示，SCP-5396-A中展现的对象的 “最理想的样子”是在其他平行宇宙中检索到的对象³。

实验日志：

对象：D-3467，有三次盗窃罪记录。小学辍学，为了养家糊口而被迫犯罪。实验前，对象回答说他的志向是成为一名“销售员”。

结果：对象的SCP-5396-A显示，D-3467穿着昂贵的西装出席了一个汽车展览会。多名人员（后来发现是D-3467的犯罪同伙）正在为感兴趣的客户介绍车辆。木镜左上角的文字写道：“汽车领域的伟大创新者。你17岁就做了三份工作。这是你可能成为的最理想的样子。也是你仍然能成为的最理想的样子。”

对象：Aldo de Marles，Site-19的看门人。实验前，对象被记录到与同事讨论了他的个人生活，他觉得自己是 “一个糟糕的丈夫，甚至不能养活自己的三个孩子”。

结果：对象的SCP-5396-A显示，老年的de Marles正在参加家庭聚会。三个年轻的成年人（后来证实是对象孩子成人后的样子）和一个老年妇女（后来证实是Lina de Marles，对象的妻子）聚在一张桌子旁。一个5岁的孩子拉着他的腿，想和他们一起吃饭。木镜左上角的文字写道：“你16岁就当了父亲。你日以继夜地工作，供养你的家人。你还能做得更好吗？你最理想的样子就在遥远的未来-你只需要等待他。”

对象：Dr. Ivan Petrenko，SCP-9015的首席研究员。他在工作中因与他大学论文有关的冒名顶替综合症遇到了诸多困难。

结果：对象的SCP-5396-A显示了Dr. Petrenko的原貌。木镜左上角的文字写道：“你在22岁就是一位公认的自然哲学家⁴，被许多同行和上级赞誉。这是你能成为的最理想的样子。此时此刻，你就是他。以此为荣吧。我当时没有，而当我明白时已经太晚了。”

附录5396.01：对SCP-5396上发现的火药和弹孔的进一步调查表明，SCP-5396来自一个名为Montgomery Burrows的镜子制造商，他于1824年至1860年居住在弗吉尼亚州的威廉斯堡。据悉，他一生都在创造 “真正的镜子”，但却从没有成功地销售他们。1860年，他使用父亲的左轮手枪在工作室中自杀。
