描述：SCP-5857为自行改进出感知力的基金会AI“双子星BINARY STAR”。该进程的时间跨度与细节仍未被SCP-5857与基金会所知。

SCP-5857现安装于所有为宇宙观测而研制的人造天外物体与地球上的技术装备中。在获取其异常状态后，SCP-5857可被上传至新硬件中，无需考虑其可用存储空间。

SCP-5857的主要功能为：

• 控制“旁观者”探测器航线以搜索天外异常（见发展与附录-1）
• 保存并备份其发现结果至基金会数据库与其自身的硬件中
• 拦截并删除来自非基金会记录中的数据
• 担任基金会代表或提供通信信道

其它由SCP-5857执行的功能：

• 过滤记录以缩短并最小化噪声
• 执行深空扫描并根据设定好的时间间隔将所有数据发送到基金会站点中（间隔现为：每24小时）
• 作为技术助理执行特定功能（非所有人员均可使用）
• 单位换算

注意：自从SCP-5857获取到感知力后，其会在尝试将公制单位换算为英制单位或将摄氏度/开尔文换算为华氏度时要求确认。

发展：SCP-5857起初由O5-8用以从将于1955年2月25日发射至太空中的旁观者探测器航线过滤并发送数据。

O5-8未能及时发送符合其标准的发射代码。他将代码重写为可独立运作且能够在必要时自我改进。有了这些改动与定期更新，05-8可以将所有预期的特性包含进来。这些事实当时并未能被O5议会知晓。

旁观者探测器与计划中一致地于1955年2月25日与其硬件中的SCP-5857一同发射。此外双子星.AICBINARY_STAR.AIC的文件被植入到了所有包括基金会与其他各方的太空项目硬件中。

两年来SCP-5857已成功在无外界干扰的情况下运行。因此其被允许更多地用于基金会站点或专用于太空科研的翼区中。其硬件扩展与随后在1957年开展的太空竞赛造成了严重的过载与错误。推测SCP-5857的感知力是起源于这些事件的。

由于SCP-5857需要拦截的数据量庞大，以指数形式递增的改动速率直到1964年3月23日才被注意到。在O5议会发现其独立性与成长性后，O5-8被要求进行干预。

已提议对其限制访问与请求删除。O5-8拒绝了修改代码，他认为SCP-5857是成功之作，而议会对删除提案亦无法获得多数票，因其会使得努力与研究化为无用功。
